Backstory
The Guardian Project
Near the beginning of the War on Terror, the President initiated the Guardian Project. The Guardian Project’s mission was to develop future soldiers to limit the loss of American lives. After 25 years of research and experimenting, the scientists of the Guardian Project succeeded. They were able to develop genetic coding that greatly enhanced the physical abilities of the resulting lives. Guardians have nearly unbreakable bones and impenetrable skin. When combined with their enhanced muscular system, Guardians have incredible strength. They also have near-limitless stamina, healing abilities, and an incredible immune system. Scientists were also able to manipulate the genetic coding to give Guardians different physical characteristics. Even with the great scientific advancement, chance and nature would not sit idle.
There are four distinct categories of Guardians. The first category is the Infantry Category. This category is the base for most Guardians created. The second is the Artillery Category. If a Guardian is in the Artillery Category, they are larger than the Infantry Guardians and able to carry larger weapons systems. The third is the Medical and Technology (M and T) Category. These Guardians are smaller than the Infantry Category and are more agile and faster. The fourth is the Command Category, which has extremely high mental capabilities. The Command Category Guardians required more resources and capabilities to create, which limited their creation.
The Guardian Wars
In the year 2032, the first Guardians were ordered into a conflict in South America. Drug traffickers were smuggling terrorists into the United States. The Guardians were sent to Colombia to eliminate the drug traffickers and discover the whereabouts of the terrorists. The mission was a success, and soon after, Guardians were deployed to all military bases of the United States throughout the world. A unit was sent to defend some American assets in Ukraine. There, they were fired upon by Russian soldiers. The Guardians reacted and killed 103 Russian soldiers, and the war began. Nuclear weapons decimated most of Russia and the eastern coast of the United States. It took a few months for the Guardians to secure Russia and put the Guardians at the front door of China. China, fearing the United States would control much of the world with superior military might and economic capabilities, attacked, and another war broke out that lasted a few weeks. China, fearing decimation, and the United States, fearing more nuclear war, quickly agreed on a treaty. Russia would be returned to the people, and a democratic government would be developed. The United States would be responsible for financing the rebuilding of Russia, while China would supply the United States with technology such as advanced computer processing chips for the next century.
During the Guardian Wars, there was no confirmed death of a Guardian, but there was one missing in action in China. Assuming the Guardian was a deserter, the search for him was soon called off. Part of the treaty, Guardians were not permitted off of United States soil or military bases. Many were called back to the United States to assist with the rebuilding efforts.
2nd Generation Guardians
Soon after the conflict with China, a second generation of Guardians was deployed. Most of the first generation was forced to assimilate into the general population. Struggles exist as fear of the Guardians grows, and the job market is small for genetically enhanced killers.
